Neuromuscular Cupping Therapy
Combining modern cupping techniques with Neuromuscular and Trigger Point Therapy is an
incredibly effective pain-relief combo. Valerie has completed the 12 week/ 24 credit hour
certification in Neuromuscular Cupping Therapy and is excited to incorporate these
techniques in her sessions.
Swelling in the ankles, face, underarms (from mastectomy), legs, etc can be a painful and
worrisome situation. Massage cupping gently moves the swelling to lymphatic "dump" sites
to be moved out of the body. By using suction, instead of the traditional pressure of lymphatic
massage, you open up the lymphatic and blood pathways to quickly alleviate the condition.
Fascia is the fibrous connective tissue that is wrapped around every muscle, bone and organ in our body. Cupping therapy uses suction to pull - rather than push like normal massage - on the connective tissue and muscles. This pulling motion is very effective in breaking up tension, and even trigger points in tissue.
Blanket Cupping is when cups are placed all over your back, or the affected area, and left for 15-20 minutes. This allows the tissue time to unwind and loosen gradually. This therapy can leave marks - circular discolorations that are not bruises, but look similar. Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Olympic swimmers and athletes have been spotted sporting these odd-looking spots. After the therapy you will feel relaxed and loosened. When I do the blanket cupping on my back I feel like I can breathe more deeply than I have ever been able to breathe. It loosens the connective tissue and muscles between the ribs and around the spine.
Abdominal cupping can help with issues like constipation and tension in the abs. Cupping therapy has been shown to effect tissue up to 4 inches thick, so it can easily reach the intestines to stimulate and loosen. I use abdominal cupping on my 7 year old daughter a lot. She has tummy issues (mostly due to her new-found dislike for anything green) and the cupping helps move her bowls along and keep her tummy from hurting.
Facial cupping might be one of the most relaxing forms of cupping available.
I have smaller, glass cups with less suction that smooth out deep lines,
relax the muscles around the eyes and temples, help with jaw and TMJ pain,
assist with ear pain (this is also something I use with my daughter a lot!) and more.
It is an extremely relaxing and rejuvenating treatment!
